Bear Spray-Armed Teens Steal In Oak Brook: Cops

The youths swiped more than $4,000 in clothing before officers caught them, police said.

OAK BROOK, IL – A trio stole more than $4,000 worth of clothing over the weekend from three stores at the Oakbrook Center mall in Oak Brook, authorities said.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl, all from Chicago, were charged with burglary, retail theft and armed violence, all felonies, police said.

Late afternoon Sunday, the three are accused of stealing 16 items valued at $1,906 from Alo clothing store. They then went to Victoria's Secret, making off with 24 items valued at $541, and finally, Macy's, swiping six items worth $1,965, police said.

Oak Brook officers arrested the youths after they left Macy's, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

The trio had bear spray while they committed the thefts, police said.

"The allegations that these three juveniles drove to Oak Brook and robbed three different establishments one after another after another are extremely alarming," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release.

A DuPage County judge ordered the teens to stay in jail until at least their next court appearance, which is set for Thursday.
