A Tall Toast: Welcome Toni Preckwinkle

“Toast With The Most” extends the decades-long tradition established by The West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its Legislative Action Council to provide the public the opportunity to engage in productive conversation with the leaders of our time. No leader stands more prominently relative to prospects for our 8-community region than Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle. We are delighted to announce she will be our guest at the Chamber’s “Toast With The Most” leadership forum breakfast January 28. She will be introduced by McCook Mayor and Cook County Commissioner Jeff Tobolski!

We all know what a mess she inherited and have applauded her efforts to improve County service against formidable odds. In a time when political promises seem measurable only in degrees of insincerity, however, she has delivered. Yes, there’s a long way to go, but certainly, we have seen an utter transformation in quality, responsiveness, intelligence and commitment from her new senior staff, particularly the Bureau of Economic Development and its Director of Planning and Development Maria Choca Urban. You can also tell the difference when you visit the place. 

On New Year’s Day, in fact, President Preckwinckle delivered on another major promise: to roll back the punishing “Stroger Tax” from 10.25% to 9.25%, which is expected to save taxpayers (that would be us) $400 million. Based on the County’s performance in prior years, that’s an amazing record so far. There is a real difference in substance and in style, which she started making when she last appeared with the Chamber in late 2010.
