LTHS Speech Team proves oratory prowess

Congratulations are in order for the Lyons Township High School Speech Team, who won first place at the Lake Forest High School Regional Tournament; three students will advance to Sectionals.

Congratulations are in order for the Lyons Township High School Speech Team, who recently won first place at the 18-team Lake Forest High School Regional Tournament. Out of 43 entries in 14 different events, LTHS won 23 medals, students in nine out of the 14 events advanced to the finals and LT brought home a trophy. In addition, three students scored among the top in their events and will advance to Sectionals.

Sectional qualifiers include senior Mary Smyers, of LaGrange Highlands, in Original Oratory (3rd place), junior Claire Meyer, of LaGrange, in Prose (4th place) and sophomore Billie Schaub, of LaGrange, in Dramatic Interpretation (3rd place).

This season has been very successful for the Team, with an impressive 86 medals and two first place tournament finishes.

Speech Team sponsors include Head Coach Kirsten Manthei and assistant coaches Christopher Bass and Joseph Maffey.
