LTHS Theatre Board to present Hairspray
Lyons Township High School Theatre Board presents "Hairspray" February 14-17.
The Lyons Township High School Theatre Board and music and dance departments proudly present “Hairspray” with book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The musical is directed by theatre teacher Eugene O’Reilly. Dance teacher Terry Wethington is the choreographer and music teacher Zachary May is the pit conductor.
Hairspray is a musical play following the story of Tracy Turnblad, a Baltimore girl who would rather appear on the Corny Collins Dance Show than graduate high school. The story takes place in 1962 when 50’s rock and roll was being replaced by the R&B sound of the early 60’s. Tracy is somewhat of an outcast because of her weight and social status. She risks everything by denying her mom, cutting school with her best friend, Penny, and auditioning for the show. She makes it, falls for the lead hunk and makes an enemy of the mean girl. In the end, she finds that race equality is more important than anything to the survival of all she loves: dance, boyfriends and big hair.
Performance dates are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 14-16 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, February 17 at 3pm in the North Campus Reber Center, 100 S. Brainard Ave., LaGrange. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children/seniors. LT students are $5 with school ID. Tickets may be purchased in the box office before the show. The theatre opens 30 minutes before the performance and the shows start promptly.
