On The Brink opens at Elmhurst Art Museum
Internationally renowned artist Nnenna Okore opens her first Chicago-area exhibit at the Elmhurst Art Museum.
Nnenna Okore brings her internationally-renowned sculpture to the Elmhurst Art Museum for her first Chicago-area exhibit. Her work is described as “striking, abstract wall hangings and installations fiber and paper that explores the delicate and cyclical nature of life.”
Nnenna’s work uses fraying, dyeing, twisting, wrapping and sewing to create labor works that are ”unabashedly handcrafted and labor intensive.” One of her works, a collection of paper bowls cast on her pregnant belly, shows the relationship between nature and the body.
With a BA from the University of Nigeria and an MA and MFA in Sculpture from the University of Iowa, Nnenna was awarded a 2013 Fulbright Scholar Award. Nnenna’s work has been shown internationally in England, France and Brazil, and in the United States in Vermont and New York.
