Community Concert Series: Fareed Haque

This month’s free Community Concert in the fine acoustics of our Sanctuary features guitarist Fareed Haque. Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, Fareed’s unique command of the guitar and different musical styles inspire his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation.

Recipient of numerous awards including Best World Guitarist, Acoustic Album of the Year, Independent Music Award and Best New World Music Award, Fareed has performed around the world with numerous jazz and classical artists. He became a staple of the Chicago jazz scene after making repeated visits to Von Freeman’s Chicago jam sessions, which gave him a grounding in the Chicago blues and jazz traditions. He has released 28 CDs.

Fareed is currently working on the Red Line Jazz Project, named after the Chicago El line. The project unifies North and South side jazz sounds through multiple performances along the route of the Red Line. The series culminates in a final performance on Friday, October 16, at the Harris Theater.
