Chicago Sinfonietta salutes veterans
Chicago Sinfonietta concludes season with a salute to veterans
The ever-creative Chicago Sinfonietta presents “United We Stand,” a unique tribute to veterans. This show is described as a “powerful exploration of the American experience” celebrating “America, the men and women who serve, and pride in shared struggles and triumphs that unite America as a whole.”
The musical selections range include American composer Charles Ives’ Variations on “America,” Chicago-based composer James “Kimo” Williams’ Symphony for the Sons of Nam and the world premier of Williams’ Veteran’s Lament. The final piece will be Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony, which is a musical representation of his journey to America and his exploration of American culture and music.
One of the more poignant moments is sure to happen during Veteran’s Lament. For several months the Chicago Sinfonietta invited the public to send images of soldier’s. The photos shown during Veteran’s Lament will be featured in a video montage during the songs, putting the faces of those who served on display during the music.
