Chicago Zoological Society Encourages Passion for Science in Suburban Students

Fair on February 26 Will Showcase Kids' Work

Brookfield, Ill. – Elementary and high school students from 10 West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence (WSCAE) schools will participate in the WSCAE science fair at the Chicago Zoological Society’s (CZS) Brookfield Zoo on Thursday, February 26.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., more than 100 students will present science experiments to a panel of judges comprised of CZS staff. Family and friends are invited to view the projects in Discovery Center from 11:30 a.m. to noon, at which time awards and prizes, including zoo family memberships, will be presented to the top three winners.

The science fair will represent students from fourth to twelfth grade in school districts that make up the WSCAE, a group of high-performing west suburban school districts.

“The collaboration with the West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence is a perfect match as we are both committed to providing quality and innovative science education,” said Agnes Kovacs, manager of school, group, and teacher programs for the Chicago Zoological Society. “The fair is an opportunity to connect students with experts in the field and receive relevant feedback on their work.”

West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence schools participating in the science fair include Westview Hills Middle School in Willowbrook; Eisenhower Junior High and Cass Junior High in Darien; Gower Middle School in Burr Ridge; Hester Junior High in Franklin Park; Komarek School in North Riverside; Hauser Junior High in Riverside; Park Junior High and Highlands Middle School in LaGrange; and Ideal School in Countryside.

The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature.
