Cockroaches And Valentine's Day? Brookfield Zoo Thinks So
You have a way to honor those who have spurned you, zoo says.
BROOKFIELD, IL — If you're in love, you may think about sweet things such as butterflies. But maybe cockroaches enter the minds of those who have been spurned. At least that's Brookfield Zoo's theory.
For some, Valentine's Day is a time for them to remember those who rejected their romantic advances. "Who's to say they can't celebrate Valentine's Day as well?" the zoo said in a news release.
The zoo is now offering you a chance to name a cockroach in honor of that "un-special (or special) someone in your life," the release said. You can name a Madagascar or hissing cockroach inside Hamill Family Play Zoo after your ex (or anyone else who may have wronged you) for Valentine's Day with a $15 donation.

Your "Name a Cockroach After Your Ex" package includes:
- A Certificate of Naming that you can fill out and share with your ex or hang on your wall as a reminder that a cockroach now bears their name.
- A placement on the Cockroach Naming Board inside Hamill Family Play Zoo by the Madagascar hissing cockroaches (first names only). The board will be unveiled Feb. 14. (The zoo will still be closed to the public, but it said it will post pics to social media.)
You can also name a cockroach after your friend or lover, the zoo said.
