Details On $400K Fraud In La Grange
A resident discovered the problem while traveling overseas, police said.

LA GRANGE, IL – The median household income in La Grange is listed at $141,000.
So it's likely that hundreds of thousands in fraudulent credit card charges would cause just about anyone in town to panic.
Patch obtained a police report in which a resident from the 10 block of North Spring Avenue reported $403,543 in such charges.

On March 18, the resident first noticed fraudulent charges on an American Express card while in Dublin, Ireland. The charges were apparently for gift cards that involved a company that offers an online marketplace, police said.
According to the report, American Express continued to cancel the resident's credit cards and sent new ones to the resident.

American Express advised the resident to file a police report, so it could investigate where the other company sent the gift cards. The resident did so Nov. 15.
Last month, American Express informed the police department the fraudulent activity was from Feb. 3 to June 1, with three of the residents' credit cards compromised, according to the report.
All the fraudulent transactions were for electronic American Express cards, which another company manages, police said.
