LA GRANGE, IL – A woman was headed toward her car near a downtown La Grange restaurant last month when she was attacked, police said.

A few days later, La Grange police reported the basics of the incident in its weekly blotter. Last week, Patch obtained the police report through a public records request.

About 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27, the woman left Chipotle restaurant, 40 N. La Grange Road, to the parking lot south of the building.

Just before she was to enter her car, a man told her, "Don't say a word and open the door," according to the report.

Believing she was being robbed, the woman gave her phone and wallet, but he said he didn't want them, police said. He asked again for her to open the car door.

The woman did so, and then the suspect grabbed her, trying to turn her toward him, police said. She elbowed the man in the face. He then punched her in the face, the report said.

The woman yelled for help. The man ran away.

She then went to the police station, which is a few blocks away. She said she could identify the man in a lineup.

A little while later, police reviewed camera footage at the nearby train station and spotted someone who matched the suspect's description. The woman said the man was not the attacker, police said.

The man was described as light-skinned black, 40 years old, about 5-foot-5, having a thin build with black short hair and a black beard, and wearing a black winter coat and orange pants.
