DMJ Automotive a Home-grown Business

Jeff Moore, a 1997 LT grad, grew up in his father's auto shop. Now he's in charge while his kids look on.

Jeff Moore spent his childhood days at his father's auto shop, and years later the Lyons Township graduate is on the other side: He runs the place while he children hang out.

DMJ Automotive, at 603 S. La Grange Road in La Grange, is a true family business providing a wide variety of auto repair services. It started in 1979 in Berwyn, and in 1987 the family moved the business to town.

"I grew up in the business," Moore said. "Every day after school I came here and learned the business."

He graduated from Lyons Township in 1997, then studied mechanical engineering in school. But he wanted to stick with the auto mechanic buisiness and officially took over a few years ago.

"My first love was cars," he said. "Growing up in a shop, just leaning on fenders and watching them work. It's something I knew like the back of my hand. It's enjoyable work."

Moore said he knows his customers well, some of whom know him from LT or are customers from the original Berwyn shop. He likes dealing with people and said he sets himself apart by his customer service. He said he's there from open to close every day. All of that has helped him build trust with his clients.

"I wouldn't do something to somebody's car that I wouldn't do to my car," he said. "My goal is to make sure the customer is happy. I want to keep the wheels turning."

He said his boys could even end up in the business. His 8-year-old, Sam, loves coming in, and all three young boys were in and out of the shop over spring break.

"We watch racing, and (Sam) is into all that stuff," Moore said. "It's fun. I like being able to provide people with this service."
