LA GRANGE, IL – A helicopter is set to be deployed Thursday to place air handling units atop a Lyons Township High School building.

The project will be at North Campus' Vaughan building. It will require the closure of the building that day.

Last year, the school board first heard a helicopter would be used for the project.

"That's not something you see every day. That's just to give you an idea of the complexity of the project," Ed Wright of Itasca-based DLA Architects told the board at a January 2022 meeting.

Board members at the time said they wanted to be alerted when the helicopter shows up, saying they would be interested in watching.

The old air handling units go back to the 1960s, with officials saying their replacement was essential.

On Wednesday, the entire main building at North Campus is scheduled to be closed for a crane lift, which is part of a summer project.
