Elmhurst Art Museum opens Richard Koppe exhibit
For the first time in 40 years, Richard Koppe's creative work will be on display.

The Elmhurst Art Museum presents an exhibit of modernist Richard Koppe’s work. Featuring 70 rarely-seen paitings, prints and drawings, EAM describes Koppe’s work by saying, “combining aspects of cubism and surrealism, Koppe explored line, composition and space, producing works that are both playful and intricate.
In cooperation with the University of Illinois at Chicago, the exhibition highlights Koppe’s mid-20th Century work including highly stylized fish and birds, abstract-expressionism and hard-edged abstraction. The Koppe exhibition runs through January, 2015.
While at the Elmhurst Art Museum, visitors can also experience “In The House,” a “site specific installation in the house that take into consideration its unique space and history.” These installations consider how the Elmhurst Art Museum McMormick House building, designed by Mies van der Rohe, becomes part of the artwork, as well as its showcase. The first “In The House” features artist Laura Davis who uses decorative and domestic objects from different eras to create “Histronic Restoration.”
