As part of the Big Read series of programs, La Grange Public Library will be hosting an eye-opening and intimate event that takes a look at New Orleans immediately following the destruction from Hurricane Katrina. On Sunday, March 13, at 2pm, hear the straight scoop from two local rescue volunteers who will discuss their experiences.
Dressed in hazmat suits, boots and masks, John Prohl and Tom Lithio helped coordinate groups of volunteers from Downers Grove to clean up and rebuild New Orleans after the hurricane. View captivating photos of the disaster and hear personal stories of how the people of New Orleans coped with the destruction and reconstruction of their homes.
The Big Read is a cooperative project of ten West suburban libraries that seek to connect communities through literature. The Big Read encourages patrons at all these libraries to read the same book with the goal of promoting reading, sparking discussion, and building community.
