LATTE Theater Presents "War of the Worlds" The Radio Play!

“Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt our program of dance music to bring you a special bulletin from the Intercontinental Radio News. At twenty minutes before eight, Central Time, Professor Farrell of the Mount Jennings Observatory, Chicago, Illinois, reports observing several explosions of incandescent gas, occurring at regular intervals on the planet Mars. The spectroscope indicates the gas to be hydrogen and moving towards the Earth with enormous velocity…”

So began the Orson Welles radio show of The War of the Worlds that terrified millions and caused mass hysteria in 1938.  Many thousands flooded newspaper offices and radio and police stations with calls, started to flee their city from "gas raids." The broadcast imagery produced through realistic sound effects were so powerful that mass social hysteria required scores of adults to reportedly seek medical treatment for shock.

Don’t miss your chance to shake with LATTE Theater’s production of “War of The Worlds”!  LATTE returns to the Plymouth Place Auditorium with this unique on-stage radio play that brings the terrifying words of literary master HG Wells to life, just in the nick of time for Halloween!    LT Freshman, veteran  LATTE actress and assistant director Kayla Devereux says “This is unlike any other show I have done at LATTE!”  HG Wells paints a picture of a horrifying world.  A world where Martians invade Earth in an attempt to destroy all that is dear to us – with technology to annihilate us completely.  How can the Earth’s people survive???

“I like the fact that we are doing an original show from the 1930’s. The original caused mass pandemonium.  We won’t get that same result, but we will give it our best out best shot!” Harith Kassar, a home school junior shares.

“Tune into this broadcast” 7:00 pm Saturday October 20th and 2:00 pm Sunday the 21st to find out!   A “talk back” with the cast after the Sunday show.

The show, a partnership starring LATTE teens and Plymouth Place Players senior citizens, is a terrific experience for the audience.  Life wisdom from the seniors permeates the stage with the enthusiasm and energy of the teens, meshing in an exhilarating show.  Kayla says ”the members of Plymouth Place bring the show to life!” She also hopes “that everyone be able to see this show and grow to love it as much as I do!”
