The Chicago Music Scene of the 60s & 70s Comes Alive at the La Grange Public Library

La Grange Public Library will host Dean Milano, author of The Chicago Music Scene: 1960s and 1970s, on July 28 at 7:00pm. Milano will perform a medley of songs on his guitar, show images and discuss the music scene described in the book.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Milano moved to the Chicago area in 1964, just in time for the Beatles arrival and the subsequent forming of garage bands on every block of every city across the country.

Milano’s music career spans over 45 years. He has released three CDs of original music, and played in approximately 75 bands over the years which encompassed his love of rock, folk, country, bluegrass, jazz, Cajun and even showtunes.

Now a resident and business owner in Elmhurst, Milano hopes his book, published in 2009, “will serve to bring some recognition to all the wonderful artists who filled Chicago with music during those incredible decades.”

Discover more about the vibrant period in urban and suburban music as Dean Milano uncovers two decades worth of music, stories and photographic history from Chicago’s 1960 and 1970s music scene.
