Talented students participate
in Piano Festival and Parello-Veverka Scholarship Competition
On Saturday afternoon, February 11th, top-ranked
young musicians took part in the Western Spring’s Music Club’s annual Piano Festival and Parrello-Veverka Scholarship Competition at Grace Lutheran Church
of LaGrange.
Superior rated students participating in this Festival and Competition will perform at the Western Springs Music Club’s Honors Recital at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February
26th, in the sanctuary of Grace Lutheran Church of LaGrange, 200 N. Catherine Ave., LaGrange. The program is fast pace and brings together the best student pianists in the western suburbs. “We’re delighted that our Club plays an active role in fostering their musical careers,” said President Peggy Barber.

Two students from Downers Grove won the Parello-Veverka Senior Scholarship -- Allison Kirkegaard is the first place winner and Alison LaBeda the second place winner. Honorable Mention went to: Lauren Butkovich (Lemont) and Carolyn Lupetini (Western Springs). The Junior Scholarship winner is Thomas Eckert (LaGrange).

Kevin McKenzie, Blake Shockley, and Zachary Lin (Western Springs); Daniel Clarke, Sasha Bogdonoff, Amber Huo, and Jackson Luo (Hinsdale); Elizabeth Richmond (LaGrange Park); Lauren Butkovich (Lemont); Mary Sullivan (Chicago); Emma Dahl (Brookfield); Nicklas Nelson (Sleepy Hollow); Scarlette Peng (Lyons); and Lev Sosahi and Natan Shayevich (Oak Brook).

For this Piano Festival and Competition, students selected their piano solos, one of which came from a required list.
The teachers who presented the student participants include: Kathi Best, Gwyn Downey, Nola Gustafson, Nancy Hagen, Joyce Johnson, Linda Lauterbach, Yuliva
Mangutor, Loretta Meistininkiene, Gail Quillman, and Lydia Sterba. Judges were: Marlene Chatain and Barbara Kudirka.
The Western Springs Music Club started in 1921 and is comprised of performing and non-performing members from our local area. “We’re proud that our Club is now in its fifth decade of hosting the Piano Festival and
Parello-Veverka Scholarship Competition,” said Nola Gustafson.
