LA GRANGE, IL – A ceremony on Monday honoring Lyons Township High School's former board president, Dawn Aubert, was missing someone important — Aubert herself.

Two weeks ago, Aubert abruptly resigned after three years on the board, saying she was moving out of state. At a board meeting that same night, Jill Grech, the new board president, announced the board would honor Aubert at the next meeting, which was Monday.

On Monday, Grech acknowledged Aubert's absence, but said Aubert was watching the livestream of the meeting.

"Unfortunately, Dawn can't be here tonight as she is traveling. But we, of course, are still eager to recognize her many contributions," Grech said.

Aubert, who previously served on the La Grange School District 102 board for eight years, became Lyons Township High's board president a year ago.

Board members praised Aubert's service.

"Her student-centric focus and her attention to detail served all of us well," Grech said, adding Aubert focused on efficiencies in board governance and processes.

Member Michael Thomas said he appreciated Aubert's collegial approach and work toward finding agreement among board members. And member Jill Beda Daniels said members could always count on Aubert doing a deep dive on data.

Board member Elvia Nava described Aubert as being "relentless at trying to keep the board together in decision-making."

The deadline to apply for Aubert's position is Friday.

Also at Monday's meeting, members appointed member Tim Albores, who was the board secretary, as vice president. Daniels was appointed secretary.

In Illinois, school board members are unpaid.
