'Extremely Popular' Class At Lyons Township High
The class keeps growing, requiring more space to offer it, an official said.
LA GRANGE, IL– Taking a yoga class at Lyons Township High School has become "extremely popular," an official said this week.
"I think we are the biggest yoga program in the state of Illinois at this point," said Scott Eggerding, director of curriculum and instruction, told the school board. "It is crazy how many kids are signing up for yoga at North Campus."
The school is piloting a Yoga II class this year and plans to make the change permanent next school year.

"It's extremely popular, and we don't see any signs of that stopping," Eggerding said. "When we did scuba, it was super popular, then it waned a little and then it sort of balanced. Yoga just keeps growing. We've created a second yoga studio, and we have outgrown that. There's one period where we have three yoga studios going."
Because of building constraints, the school is looking to limit students to taking Yoga I one semester each year at the junior and senior levels.

This would allow the school to accommodate all Yoga I requests during any given year, according to a school memo.
It also encourages students to take Yoga II, the memo said. Both classes get students dual credit through the College of DuPage.
"There may be some students for whom Yoga II may not be right and some of the yoga poses are very difficult (for them). So the teacher will say, 'Stay with Yoga I,'" Eggerding said. "We give the teacher that latitude."
