Fire In La Grange Park Mulch Pile Put Out: Village

The blaze appeared suspicious, the fire chief said. No official cause has been determined.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL – A fire started in La Grange Park's brush and mulch pile Sunday night, according to the local fire department.

Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly before 9 p.m. behind the Homestead Apartments, along the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, the department said.

They used multiple hose lines to put out the fire, with the help of public works equipment and personnel. They remained there for 4½ hours.

The cause remains under investigation.

In an interview, Fire Chief Dean Maggos said the department believed the fire was suspicious.

"There's no real reason for a fire back there. It was burning pretty heavy when we got there," Maggos said.
