Fleeing Armed Robbers Crash Into Tree, Get Ejected From Car: Cops

Six people were taken into custody after an armed robbery of an ATM in Riverside on Monday night.

RIVERSIDE, IL — Six people are in custody after an armed robbery of an ATM on Monday night, Riverside Police said. Police were notified at 9:35 p.m. of an armed robbery outside of the Bank of America, 3300 Harlem Ave., at the ATM machine.

According to police, an employee was servicing the machine when confronted by armed individuals. An undetermined amount of cash was taken and the offenders fled.

Offices were able to locate the described car a block from where the crime had occurred and a vehicle pursuit began. Police said it was reported that officers were shot at during the pursuit. After about a half mile chase, the fleeing car crashed into a tree, rolled and ejected some of the offenders.

Police said six people were taken into custody and all were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. No police officers were injured, and officers never fired their weapons during the incident.

Several weapons, ammunition, spent shell casings and currency have been recovered from the scene, police said. The investigation is at its beginning stages, no charges have been filed at this time as the case is ongoing.
