Funeral Home Hosts Grief Support Gatherings Monthly

In June, attendees will learn how art can help deal with loss.

BROOKFIELD, IL - Every month, a funeral home in Brookfield hosts a grief support gathering for those dealing with the death of a loved one. These meetings occur on the second Tuesday of every month at the Hitzeman Funeral Home at 9445 W. 31st St. and focus on a different topic every month.

In June, the gathering will continue its discussion on creative ways to manage grief. Special guest Joan Cantwell, a nurse and artist, will talk about her journey as a caretaker and griever after the death of her father.

Cantwell will share how art allowed her to work through existential questions about life and how it has made it possible for her to move beyond feeling stuck. To demonstrate the value of incorporating creativity in your grief journey, Joan will also facilitate an art project with participants.
