Growth Rate In La Grange Virus Cases Still Slowing

The coronavirus claimed the life of a La Grange resident in the last week, increasing the death toll to 12.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange continues to see smaller weekly increases in its coronavirus case number. As of Sunday, the village had seven more cases in the previous week, lower than the previous week's 14, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The village suffered one virus-related death in the last week, bringing the total to 12, the county medical examiner's figures show.

The increase in coronavirus cases over the last week amounts to 4 percent, lower than the previous week's 9 percent. Before that, the percentage jumps were considerably larger.

Over the last week, suburban Cook County's case number jumped to 31,894, a 6 percent increase from the previous week's 30,149. The county's deaths increased by 10 percent to 1,436, up from 1,309 a week earlier.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 11.9 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.3 in Western Springs, 5.2 in Elmhurst, 5.3 in Clarendon Hills, 5.4 in Darien, 5.7 in La Grange Park, 8.4 in Burr Ridge, 8.9 in DuPage County, 10.3 in Hinsdale and 13 in suburban Cook.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 127,757, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 5,904 state residents.

Nationally, 2 million people have caught the virus and 112,471 have died from it.
