Here's What La Grange Highlands' New Leader Will Get

The incoming superintendent must live within 30 miles of the school district.

LA GRANGE, IL — The incoming superintendent for La Grange Highlands District 106 entered a "performance-based" contract with the school board this week.

On Monday, the board approved the hiring of John Munch, assistant superintendent for human resources for School District 181, which serves students in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills. He starts July 1.

A district news release reported the decision, but did not include his salary. Patch obtained the document through a public records request.

Under his three-year contract, Munch is set to get $180,000 in his first year. That is only slightly above the salary of his predecessor, Amy Warke, who resigned in December under mysterious circumstances. Her salary was $179,000.

Munch's salary will rise each year at the rate of the consumer price index. During the evaluation process, the board can consider a salary increase and benefit adjustments for later years, according to the agreement.

The contract requires that Munch live within 30 miles of the district. Each year, he is set to get 20 vacation days in addition to holidays, 15 sick days and 3 personal days. He can accumulate a maximum of 340 sick days. Unused personal days can accumulate toward sick leave.

According to the Illinois Report Card, La Grange Highlands has an enrollment of about 920, with 4 percent coming from low-income families. Munch's salary and benefits amount to about $200 per student.
