The Home Depot Foundation recently announced that it will donate $5,000 in building materials needed to build the new Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park. Known for its generous support of veterans, the Home Depot Foundation chose the Community Park District’s project because it is a grass roots effort that is being propelled by volunteers and is financed with voluntary contributions.
The Veterans Memorial Committee, led by Committee Chairman Ray Wielgos, anticipates reaching its $85,000 goal before December 31, 2013 so that construction is completed in time for a dedication and the first Memorial Day Ceremony in May, 2014. To date, the Veterans Memorial Fund had received over $3,500 in engraved paver brick sales and $30,000 in pledges.

Donors who wish to honor a friend or family member with an engraved brick installed at the memorial site may phone the Community Park District office at 708-354-4580. Veterans Memorial information is also found on the Park District website at www.cpdlgp.org. While there is still ample time to act, brick orders received first will be installed closest to the memorial wall. Donations of $100 are entitled to a 4”x8” brick that can accommodate up to three lines of script with up to twenty spaces per line. $200 donations are entitled to a larger 8”x8” brick that can accommodate up to six lines of script with up to twenty spaces per line. With the donor’s permission all contributions will be recognized on the Park District website and in the Park District’s summer 2014 recreation program brochure. Donors who contribute between $500 and $5,000 are entitled to engraved paving bricks of their choosing and are invited to be recognized on a “Donor’s Wall” that will be built on the memorial site near the memorial wall.
The Community Park District Board of Commissioners and the Veterans Memorial Committee thank the Home Depot Foundation and the many individuals who have already contributed to this worthy project.
