How La Grange Fitness Center Is Doing During Pandemic

LA GRANGE, IL — The pandemic has taken a toll on La Grange Fitness.

According to a report this week, the fitness center, which is run by the Park District of La Grange, had 2,137 members as of Oct. 31, down 16 percent from the previous year. October brought in 60 new members.

Jenny Bechtold, the fitness center's superintendent, told the park board last month that the center is picking up and is at about 50 percent usage from where it was before the pandemic. It is seeing fewer cancellations, she said.

During October, the center recorded 4,488 visits by members, compared with 9,488 in October 2019.

"(C)onsidering the pandemic, we are doing OK," Bechtold told the board last month, according to meeting minutes.

Because of the increased positivity rate in Cook County, .the center has decided to keep its locker rooms close, this week's report said.
