Illegal Sleeper, Sign Thefts: La Grange Cops

A person is believed to be sleeping overnight inside the post office, police said.

LA GRANGE, IL – In the last few days, La Grange police handled cases involving disorderly conduct, sign thefts, threats, a quick change scam and DUI. Here is information from the latest La Grange police reports:

Disorderly conduct

  • Someone has been sleeping overnight inside the post office, 121 W. Hillgrove Ave. An extra police patrol was requested. The report was filed Oct. 11.

  • Political signs were reported stolen from two houses Oct. 11 in the 10 block of South Stone Avenue.

Quick change scam

  • Walgreens, 2 N. La Grange Road, told police Sept. 24 that it lost $1,400 in a quick change scam.

Threats

  • A resident in the 300 block of East Plainfield Road told police Sept. 20 about receiving threatening text messages from her landlord involving personal mail being delivered incorrectly.
  • A Top Auto Repair, 601 E. 47th St., reported Oct. 7 receiving several threatening messages. It appears to be part of a scam. An investigation continues.

Theft

  • A person noticed the lock was damaged on her storage locker Sept. 21 at Life Storage, 405 Shawmut Ave. Items valued at $275 were stolen. An investigation continues.
  • A man told police Oct. 8 that someone stole his medication while he was in the police station's lobby. From surveillance footage, police found that no one approached the man or removed his medication.

Fraud

  • A person dropped a personal check in the mailbox at the La Grange post office, 121 W. Hillgrove Ave. The person was later told the check had been altered and cashed by a stranger. The report was filed Sept. 28.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of South Madison Avenue told police Oct. 2 about receiving a Verizon bill for $4,700. The resident filed an identity theft claim with Verizon.

Bike theft

  • A bicycle and lock were reported stolen from a bike rack on Oct. 11 in the 10 block of Sixth Avenue. The bike was valued at $350.

DUI

  • A 41-year-old Westchester man was arrested about 4 a.m. Oct. 8 in the 9600 block of East Ogden Avenue on charges of DUI, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and having no insurance.
  • A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 6 p.m. Oct. 1 in the 700 block of East 47th Street on charges of DUI (drugs), disobeying a stop sign, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and possession of marijuana in a car outside of a container.
  • A 54-year-old La Grange man who lives in the 700 block of East Maple was arrested in the 500 block of East Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 27 on charges of DUI, illegally transporting alcohol and driving with an expired license.
  • A 24-year-old La Grange Park man who lives in the 700 block of North La Grange Road was arrested about 4 a.m. Sept. 29 on East Cossitt Avenue on charges of DUI, driving in the wrong lane and illegally transporting alcohol.
