La Grange Attracts Shoppers with Deals and Door Prizes

Over 25 La Grange merchants are enticing shoppers with free gifts and one-day-only offers during Girlfriends Getaway, a spring sales promotion organized by the La Grange Business Association on Saturday, April 28 from 10am – 4pm.

A passport and map to all the merchant stops will be available at various local businesses, the La Grange Business Association (26 S. La Grange) or online at lagrangeevents.com. The passport includes an offer for $5 off of a $25 minimum purchase at each participating retailer, over a $100 value. Shoppers may be eligible to win one of several $50 gift certificates to La Grange restaurants when they visit stores in selected locations and have their passports stamped.

Beginning at 10am, colorful free tote bags with fun gift items will be distributed to the first 100 women who start their getaway at Club Pilates La Grange, 18 W. Burlington, the event’s presenting sponsor. Shoppers can stroll to participating merchants with their totes for fun surprises, while supplies last. The club will offer a free pilates reformer class from 10-10:45am. Visitors may register here.

Girlfriends Getaway is another event in a series organized by the La Grange Business Association to help position La Grange as a shopping and dining destination. “Shopping small is the big story,” said Kathy Dierkes, the business group’s president. “La Grange is selling an extraordinary shopping experience you can’t find online or in a big box store.”

Sheri Walker, the owner of Club Pilates which opened in La Grange in February, says this shopping day emphasizes the importance of reinvesting in the community by supporting local entrepreneurs. “The wonderful businesses in La Grange are owned by your neighbors and friends. Together they provide you with more choices, more diversity, and their combined presence is what makes La Grange different from any other community in the world.”

One Chicago study found that $68 of every $100 spent at a local independent merchant stays in the community versus only $43 spent at a chain store. Local businesses create higher-paying jobs and reinvest more tax dollars.
