La Grange Coronavirus Cases Jump By Nearly 50 Percent
Village's rate of cases higher than many nearby towns.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange's coronavirus case number surged by nearly half in the last week, surpassing the rate of suburban Cook County, according to the latest figures from the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, La Grange had 100 cases, up from 68 a week earlier, a 47 percent increase.

Over the last week, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 16,356, a 40 percent jump from the previous week's 11,688. The county's deaths increased by nearly a third to 632, up from 482 a week earlier. The county does not report deaths by municipality.

As of Sunday, La Grange has 6.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, up from 4.4 a week earlier. La Grange's rate is higher than most nearby towns — 1.4 in Western Springs, 2.9 in La Grange Park, 3 in Elmhurst and Clarendon Hills, 3.6 in Darien, 6 in Burr Ridge and 7.2 in Hinsdale. The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 14.8 cases per thousand people.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 61,499. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 2,618 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
Nationally, nearly 1.2 million people have caught the virus, and 68,286 people have died from it.
