La Grange Coronavirus: Cases Nearly Double
La Grange's rate of increase is far higher than suburban Cook County's.

LA GRANGE, IL — The rate of increase in La Grange's coronavirus cases surged past suburban Cook County's over the last week, according to the latest figures. As of Sunday, La Grange had 49 cases, up from 27 a week earlier, an 81 percent increase, according to Cook County figures.
Over the same period, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 7,893, a 45 percent increase from the previous week's 5,512. Deaths increased 60 percent to 327 in the last week. Ninety-six of the deaths have been in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. The county does not report deaths by municipality.
La Grange's rate is 3.2 coronavirus cases per 1,000 people, compared with 1.1 in Western Springs, 1.8 in La Grange Park and 3.4 in Riverside, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates of cases. Park Forest, for instance, has 11.4 cases per thousand people.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was more than 30,000, but the number of additional deaths fell Sunday after several days of higher counts. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,290 Illinois residents, according to the state Department of Public Health.
