La Grange Coronavirus Cases Rise 19 Percent
Village has a higher rate of virus cases than many nearby towns.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange is still seeing big increases in its coronavirus case number, compared to many area towns. As of Sunday, the village had 145 cases, up from 122 a week earlier, according to the latest figures from the Cook County Public Health Department. That amounts to a 19 percent increase.

Over the last week, suburban Cook County's jumped to 23,839, an 18 percent increase from the previous week's 20,154. The county's deaths increased by 22 percent to 1,019, up from 833 a week earlier. The county health department does not report deaths by municipality.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 9.4 cases per thousand. La Grange's rate is higher than many nearby towns — 2.5 in Western Springs, 4 in Clarendon Hills, 4.1 in Elmhurst, 4.3 in Darien, 4.6 in La Grange Park, 6.4 in DuPage County and 9.6 in Hinsdale.

While La Grange has a hospital in its boundaries — Amita Adventist Medical Center La Grange — that would not explain the village's caseload. Coronavirus patients are counted at the place of their residence, not at the hospital where they are admitted, according to the state.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 94,191, up 21 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 4,177 state residents.
Nationally, 1.5 million people have caught the virus, and 89,923 have died from it.
