La Grange Coronavirus: Cases Up By A Third
La Grange's rate of increase is lower than suburban Cook County's.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw its coronavirus cases skyrocket by a third in the last week, but its rate of increase was lower than suburban Cook County as a whole, according to the latest figures. As of Sunday, La Grange had 68 cases, up from 49 a week earlier, a 39 percent increase, according to Cook County statistics.
Over the same period, suburban Cook County's cases jumped to 11,688, a 48 percent increase from the previous week's 7,893. The county's deaths increased 47 percent to 482 as of Sunday. A total of 118 of the deaths have been in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. The county does not report deaths by municipality.
As of Sunday, La Grange had 4.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people, up from 3.2 a week earlier. La Grange's rate is higher than nearby towns — 2 per thousand in La Grange Park, 2.7 in Hinsdale, 2.8 in Clarendon Hills and 3.8 in Riverside, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. The south suburbs, meanwhile, are seeing considerably higher rates. Park Forest, for example, has 13.9 cases per thousand people.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 43,903. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,933 Illinois residents.
Nationally, nearly 940,000 have caught the virus, and more than 53,000 have died from it, as of Sunday morning, thousands more than less than 24 hours earlier.
