La Grange Eyes Upgrades For South La Grange Road
Higher-than-average vacancies provide opportunities for new businesses and housing, a study says.

LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange is looking to revitalize South La Grange Road, with a market analysis saying higher-than-average vacancies provide opportunities.
Those vacancies could accommodate new shops, restaurants and offices that meet market expectations for modern spaces and amenities, the analysis said.
The study was done by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. A local committee is reviewing it Tuesday.

The housing on South La Grange Road could be "infused with diverse housing options" for older residents looking to downsize and younger people seeking affordable starter homes, the study said.
The analysis called for safer, comfortable crossings on South La Grange Road.
"Steps to improve pedestrian safety should create a more welcoming environment for increased foot traffic to support existing and new shops, offices, and restaurants along the corridor," the study said.
Improvements to water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure would be needed to support new development or property rehabilitations without taxing existing neighborhoods, the study said.
The South La Grange Road Corridor Study Steering Committee plans to review the analysis at its meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Village Hall's auditorium.
In 2024, the Village Board approved a long-term plan for development that called for improvements to South La Grange Road.
