La Grange Geography Whiz Headed To International Bee

Her family is seeking money for the trip through a fundraising website.

LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange student knows where things are on a map. She's shown she is an expert in such things.

Antonia is a student at Tallgrass Sudbury School, which holds classes in the First Congregational Church of La Grange. Her mother is Maureen Kelleher.

Antonia made it to the national semifinals in the National Geography Bee. This qualifies her to go to the International Geography Championships in July in Vienna, Austria.

"Antonia is already studying hard for international competitions and plans to give back to the sponsoring organization by serving as a question reader for regional elementary competitions, now that she has aged out of competing in them," her mother said on a GoFundMe page.

The family is raising money for Antonia's trip on GoFundMe, with a goal of $2,500. In the first day, they have raised $1,500.

"The sooner we can buy tickets, the better, since January is a great time to buy international flights for later in the year," her other said.

The total cost of the trip is expected to exceed $5,000.

"I can't get her there alone; it will take a village," Maureen Kelleher said.
