La Grange, Hinsdale Hospitals Break Virus Records

Hospitals are "very busy" with the latest surge in the pandemic.

LA GRANGE, IL — The hospitals in Hinsdale and La Grange broke records in the number of coronavirus patients this week, its spokesman says.

As of Wednesday, Amita Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale was treating 46 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19. And Amita Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange was caring for 51.

"All our hospitals are very busy, but we continue to manage the current COVID-19 surge and encourage the community to get vaccinated and boosted," Amita spokesman Tim Nelson said in an email Wednesday.

Elmhurst Hospital also broke its record this week, with 98 patients. That's well above the previous record of 84 in November 2020.

Area towns are seeing surges in coronavirus cases. Last week, Hinsdale experienced 198 new cases, well past its old record. La Grange saw 196 cases, while Western Springs recorded 155.

Darien is in a somewhat better position. It is larger than the other towns, but saw 173 cases, fewer than both La Grange and Hinsdale.
