LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange trustee said Monday that children on electric scooters were "pretty problematic."

At a Village Board meeting, Trustee Beth Augustine directed her comments to Police Chief Timothy Griffin.

The village, she said, has an issue with children racing with electric scooters.

"I've been hearing from residents and seeing it myself," Augustine said. "I get asked what are the rules, what are the ages (allowed), where can you ride them," she said.

Augustine said she thought she knew the answers, but said the village should inform residents what they are.

"A couple of neighbors have seen some really dangerous things happening with kids who are taking off their helmets or who don't have helmets," the trustee said. "If parents knew what the requirements were, they would have an easier time telling the kids to stay off the streets or wear a helmet and what age you can be to ride it. It can be pretty problematic."

Augustine may know what the answers are. But a search for the word "scooter" on the village website yields nothing about rules.
