LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School's plan for a new turf field and stormwater infrastructure received support this week from La Grange Village President Mark Kuchler.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, Kuchler said he read a Patch story about the high school's long-term plan for projects. One of the bigger ones was the North Campus field, including a storm sewer and underground water detention.

"We look forward as a village to working with Lyons Township. Maybe we can even apply for joint grants to really see that we can capture as much water as possible," Kuchler said. "Every bit helps in mitigating flooding."

In 2021, a similar project was done at York High School in Elmhurst. In that case, the school board entered an agreement with the city to arrange for stormwater detention, with the city paying for it.

Earlier this month, La Grange prevailed in court over a nearby quarry, a major breakthrough in the village's effort to reduce flooding. At Monday's board meeting, though, residents continued to express concerns about drainage issues.
