La Grange Library Expands Curbside Service

Library has served hundreds of patrons since May 26.

LA GRANGE, IL — The La Grange Public Library reached 500 patron pickups of materials as of last Wednesday. Now, the library is expanding the curbside service, which started May 26.

The original hours were 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. As of Monday, the library expanded the hours to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Patrons can place a hold via the library’s online catalog, and then receive an email or phone call when their hold is ready. When they arrive at the library for the pickup, all they need to do is call 708-215-3207, and a staff member will set their items (already packaged in a paper bag) on a table near the book drops. In the case of bad weather, the table for contactless holds pickup will be moved to our entryway vestibule just inside the front doors.

“The library curbside pickup could not have been easier,” said Jacqui Buckler, La Grange resident and preschool director at First United Methodist of La Grange, in the news release. “I requested the book online and received an email when it was ready. When I arrived, I called and the book was brought out to me. The check out process was already complete — it was such an efficient experience. “

Curbside holds pickup is the first step toward reopening the library building, and the staff and board are currently working on a timeline and strategy for safely reopening the building in phases., the release said. For the most current information, patrons can visit the library's website.

“This has been quite a time for libraries, and I am very proud of the work that the La Grange Public Library has been doing to provide continuous service using virtual programming, digital content, virtual reference and now access to our physical collection once again,” said Charity Gallardo, the library's executive director, said in the release. “We miss seeing our patrons in person and are very much looking forward to being able to offer additional services.”
