LA GRANGE PARK, IL – The La Grange Park Library board voted for a permanent executive director Wednesday.

The board went with the interim director, Gabriel Oppenheim, whom the board appointed seven months ago. He has worked for the library since 1996.

In September, Executive Director Juanita Harrell abruptly resigned after six months at the helm. She did not explain why. It was four days after the library held a public event celebrating her six months and praising her work.

A couple of days after her resignation, the board unanimously voted for Oppenheim as the interim director. The board did not alert the public that such a vote would take place, which the Open Meetings Act requires.

The library is closed from April 7 to May 5, which is when it is scheduled to return to its newly renovated building.
