La Grange Park Woman Charged In Medicaid Fraud Crackdown: State

LA GRANGE PARK, IL – A La Grange Park woman was among 17 people statewide who are accused of defrauding Medicaid and other programs that help the poor.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced the charges Tuesday.

The defendants include Ezgi Abik, 54, who lives in the 1500 block of West Maple Avenue in La Grange Park, authorities said.

Abik was charged with two counts of theft of government property, two counts of managed care fraud, two counts of theft and one count of forgery, the attorney general's office said.

The charges are in connection with submitting false claims to Medicaid for non-emergency medical transportation for recipients, the office said.

The attorney general alleged that Abik did business as Alexis of Illinois for transportation services that she did not provide.

The charges were part of a nationwide law enforcement action that resulted in charges against 455 defendants across the country, including 90 doctors and other licensed medical professionals, Raoul said.

Their schemes involved more than $6.5 billion in false claims and significant patient harm, the attorney general said.
