La Grange, IL –Nearly 900 registered runners and walkers, plus hundreds of volunteers and community supporters, participated in The LeaderShop’s 5K race, held on Friday, June 6. With beautiful summer weather, family and spectators came out for a fun-filled evening of racing and to cheer on runners of all ages. This year, 12 youth bands lined the course route singing and playing guitar and other instruments to motivate runners and walkers to complete the race. The community also cheered on the youngest runners in the Mini-Me One-Lap Race and the One-Mile Race.
In its twelfth year, The La Grange Rocks 5K Run and Walk continues to support the work of The LeaderShop, which strives to empower youth to become community-minded individuals through diverse programs that foster confidence, knowledge and leadership. The race continues to grow each year and many participants choose to run in teams or groups. Groups that ran the race included: The First National Bank of La Grange, Brook Park Running Club, Helping Hand, The YMCA Running Club, Grayhill, Kohls, Celtics Soccer Team, Katherine Dierkes, Cossitt Avenue School Running Clubs, and Lyons Township Mental Health Commission. This year‘s event raised over $40,000, and The LeaderShop offers its sincere thanks to the participants, sponsors, volunteers, and community members who continue to make this event such a great experience and success.
