La Grange Sees 13% Weekly Hike In Coronavirus Cases: County
The mortality rate among local coronavirus victims is 1.8 percent.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange experienced a higher rate of increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 1,198 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 13 percent from a week before. The previous week's hike was 10 percent.
Since early October, La Grange's cases have increased nearly 150 percent. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange was 22 as of Sunday, four more than a week before. The latest deaths were Dec. 5 and Dec. 1. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.
The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.8 percent. Of La Grange's entire population, 6 percent have been infected with the coronavirus. About a tenth of 1 percent of the population have died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 62.7 coronavirus cases per thousand people, higher than its neighbors. The figure compares to 40.4 in La Grange Park, 44.2 in Darien, 45.6 in Hinsdale, 46.8 in Western Springs, 52.1 in Elmhurst, 52.3 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 56.9 in suburban Cook County and 57.1 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 787,573, up 9.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 13,255 state residents.
Nationally, 14.5 million people have caught the virus, up 10 percent from the week before. A total of 280,135 people have died from the virus in the United States.
