La Grange Sees Biggest Virus Caseload Hike Since May: Stats

Two more La Grange residents have died as a result of the coronavirus.

LA GRANGE, IL — In the last week, La Grange experienced its largest percentage increase in coronavirus cases since May, according to Cook County Public Health Department numbers. As of Sunday, La Grange has seen 416 cases, up 13 percent from a week before.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office reported that the latest two coronavirus deaths in La Grange were Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. That brings the total deaths to 15. Before the recent deaths, no La Grange resident had died as a result of the coronavirus since June 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until recently. La Grange Patch has been using the health department's numbers all along. In an email, the department said it was unable to determine La Grange cases from those in La Grange Highlands.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 21.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people, which is greater than suburban Cook County as a whole. The figure compares to 12.2 in Darien, 13.4 in La Grange Park, 14.2 in Western Springs, 15.3 in Elmhurst, 16.5 in Clarendon Hills, 16.6 in DuPage County, 19.1 in Hinsdale, 21.5 in Burr Ridge and 21.6 in suburban Cook County.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 250,961, up 8 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,179 state residents.

Nationally, 6.2 million people have caught the virus, up 7 percent from the week before. A total of 188,513 people have died from the virus in the United States.
