La Grange Sees Most Virus Cases In More Than Month: County
No new coronavirus deaths are reported in La Grange.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange is seeing more new coronavirus cases than it has in over a month, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 2,625 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 24 more than the previous week. For three weeks in a row, the community had seen 22 new cases.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 36. The latest deaths were Sept. 17, Sept. 14, May 24, May 22, May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were over 50, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.4 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 137 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, the worst among its surveyed neighbors. The figure compares to 95 in Darien, 104 in La Grange Park, 108 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 110 in Elmhurst, 116 in Clarendon Hills, 118 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County and 119 in Burr Ridge.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,695,524, a 0.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,771.
Nationally, 45.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.2 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 743,410 people have died from the virus in the United States.
