La Grange Sees Steady Virus Rate Increases

The village has experienced no coronavirus deaths since early September.

LA GRANGE, IL — Since early September, La Grange has been seeing weekly increases in its total coronavirus cases between 3 percent and 5 percent. That trend continued last week, with an increase of 4 percent, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including the unincorporated La Grange Highlands, had a total of 507 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Figures on those who are considered recovered are unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths stood at 15, with the most recent ones Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. Before the latest deaths, no La Grange resident had died as a result of the coronavirus since June 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until August. La Grange Patch has been citing the health department's numbers all along.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had 26.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 16.2 in La Grange Park, 16.3 in Darien, 19.5 in Western Springs, 20.9 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 21.9 in Elmhurst, 23.5 in Hinsdale, 26 in suburban Cook County and 27.5 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 319,150, up 6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,984 state residents.

Nationally, 7.7 million people have caught the virus, up 5 percent from the week before. A total of 213,614 people have died from the virus in the United States.
