La Grange Still Sees Small Hikes In Virus Cases

No new deaths from the virus in the last week in La Grange, county figures show.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange is continuing to see small increases in coronavirus cases in recent weeks. As of Sunday, the village saw five more cases over the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The village experienced no new coronavirus deaths in the last week, with the total remaining at 13, the county medical examiner's figures show.

The increase in coronavirus cases over the last week amounted to 3 percent, higher than the previous week's 2 percent. Before the last three weeks, the percentage jumps were considerably larger.

Over the last week, suburban Cook County's case number jumped to 34,087, a 3 percent increase from the previous week's 33,057. The county's total deaths increased by 5 percent to 1,610, up from 1,531 a week earlier.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 12.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.5 in Western Springs, 5.6 in Clarendon Hills, 5.8 in Elmhurst, 6 in Darien, 6.2 in La Grange Park, 8.6 in Burr Ridge, 9.4 in DuPage County, 10.4 in Hinsdale and 11.5 in suburban Cook County.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 136,762, up 3 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 6,647 state residents.

Nationally, 2.4 million people have caught the virus and 122,250 have died from it.
