La Grange Village Official Bashes Trump
Trustee criticizes ex-president in asking board to approve contracts.

LA GRANGE, IL — A La Grange village trustee took a detour through national politics Monday as he pushed his colleagues to approve engineering contracts.
Trustee David McCarty acknowledged it was unusual to introduce such issues during a Village Board meeting. But he said national events sometimes require it.
"If from that perspective we consider the national lament regarding what makes America great, I would like to propose my own conspiracy theory: Seventy-four million voters and, more recently, several thousand delusional souls posit that a single megalomaniacal person living in a conspiratorial fantasy where truth is the enemy is what makes America great," McCarty said.

McCarty said he had an "extreme, opposite theory" that is far closer to the reason behind America's greatness.
"Across America, diligent, dedicated, educated, hardworking and caring government workers conspire every day to make America great," he said in his prepared speech.

He then cited village employees as local representatives of those conspiring to make America great. And he said it made sense to have consultants such as engineering firms reduce village costs and provide greater expertise to the village.
McCarty never mentioned President Donald Trump by name, but his reference to 74 million was Trump's vote total in the November election.
After McCarty's speech, Village President Mark Kuchler commented, "Well said, Trustee McCarty. You'll be missed in your introductions in a few months."
McCarty, a trustee since 2013, is not running for a third term in the April 6 election.
As it happens, the trustees unanimously approved the engineering contracts, which were with Baxter & Woodman and Christopher B. Burke Engineering.
