La Grange Virus Case Hikes Lower Than State's Percentage-Wise

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange remains the same.

LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange continues to see smaller percentage increases in its coronavirus caseload than the state.

As of Sunday, La Grange had 487 virus cases, up 4 percent from a week before, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. Figures on those who are considered recovered are unavailable.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the number of coronavirus-related deaths stood at 15, with the most recent ones Aug. 27 and Sept. 4. Before the latest deaths, no La Grange resident had died as a result of the coronavirus since June 9. All the local deaths have been those who were 68 or older, according to the medical examiner.

The Cook County Public Health Department's coronavirus numbers for La Grange also include unincorporated La Grange Highlands, which the agency did not make apparent until August. La Grange Patch has been using the health department's numbers all along.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including unincorporated La Grange Highlands, had 25.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 14.7 in La Grange Park, 15 in Darien, 18.2 in Western Springs, 19.7 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 20.4 in Elmhurst, 22.6 in Hinsdale, 24.9 in suburban Cook County and 26.4 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 301,541, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,791 state residents.

Nationally, 7.4 million people have caught the virus, up 4 percent from the week before. A total of 208,821 people have died from the virus in the United States.
