La Grange Virus Caseload Stabilizes: County
The village's number of coronavirus cases stayed the same in the last week.
LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange's weekly increase in new coronavirus cases was about the same as the previous week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, La Grange, including La Grange Highlands, had seen 2,516 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 22 more than the previous week. The week before last, La Grange experienced 19 new cases.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 36. The four latest deaths were Sept. 17, Sept. 14, May 24, May 22, May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were over 50, according to the medical examiner.

The mortality rate among La Grange cases is 1.4 percent. About a tenth of 1 percent of the local population has died from the virus.

As of Sunday, La Grange, including unincorporated La Grange Highlands, had 132 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, the worst among its neighbors. The figure compares to 91 in Darien, 98 in La Grange Park, 103 in DuPage County, 104 in Hinsdale, 106 in Elmhurst, 112 in Clarendon Hills and Western Springs, 113 in suburban Cook County and 115 in Burr Ridge.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,612,129, up 1.4 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,783.
Nationally, 42.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 684,884 people have died from the virus in the United States.
